Pets Join Ganpati Aarti In Mumbai! Kandivali Pandal Gives Animals A Place Of Honour
What happens when Mumbai’s Ganeshotsav celebrations make space for four-legged devotees too?
At a Ganpati pandal in Kandivali, pet parents and their furry companions came together for a special aarti, in an unusual celebration centred around animal welfare and coexistence.
FPJ interacted with pet parents who said that while many Ganpati pandals do not allow them to bring their pets close to Bappa, this initiative gave them an opportunity to celebrate together. Pet parents said they felt happy and proud to see their animals welcomed and treated with respect.
The Kandivali mandal, which describes itself as a pet-friendly Ganesh mandal, has also taken up several animal-welfare initiatives. These include feeding street dogs twice a day until visarjan, a rabies vaccination programme, radium collars for around 1,500 street dogs and a microchipping camp for pets.
The mandal is also using its Ganeshotsav theme to raise awareness about animal cruelty, illegal wildlife trade, plastic pollution, habitat loss and the need for coexistence between humans and animals.
From pet parents and their fur babies joining Bappa’s aarti to welfare initiatives for stray animals, Kandivali’s Ganeshotsav is bringing a different message to Mumbai’s festive celebrations.
