Investors scrambled for cover after Israel launched strikes on “dozens” of military and nuclear targets in Iran. The strikes came hours after US President Donald Trump flagged the move by Israel unless Tehran agreed to halt production of material for a nuclear bomb. The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation will continue “for as many days as it takes to remove the threat”. Benchmark crude oil prices spiked by more than 10 per cent in the Asian session to $US76 a barrel, which is the highest level since February, as the escalation of Middle East tension threatens supply. Gold prices rose more than 1 per cent. While equities were sold off, the Australian market didn’t fall severely as shares in gold miners and oil producers rallied. The program also looks at the drawn out US China trade negotiations and house prices. It now costs more to advertise a home for sale in Australia than almost anywhere else in the world and REA group, the $32 billion publicly listed company, which operates realestate.com.au and is majority owned by the Murdoch-controlled News Corporation, reaps most of the online advertising fees. The competition regulator, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), has stepped in after years of complaints that REA Group is using its dominant position to the detriment of home sellers and real estate agents. While the cost of providing a home listing on the internet is very low, the Melbourne-headquartered company has established itself as the number one site to list on and, as such, it can hike up its listing prices nearly every year.
