A fatal road crash in Mumbai’s Malad West has sparked questions over the police action against the accused driver.
A 33-year-old woman, Advocate Priyanka Satra, was killed after a car allegedly rammed into her two-wheeler and three other vehicles near Mamlatdar Wadi on S.V. Road on August 30. Several others were injured in the crash.
The accused, 71-year-old Krishna Chamankar, was booked under BNS Section 106(1) and was subsequently released on ₹15,000 bail.
Priyanka Satra’s family has alleged that the accused received preferential treatment while at Malad Police Station, including claims of access to a phone, chair and an AC room.
FPJ spoke to Corporator Pravin Chheda, who questioned the police action and alleged that the accused was given preferential treatment. Chheda has also questioned why a stricter section was not invoked in the Malad case, comparing it with another fatal crash in Bandra on the same day.
Chheda has demanded a high-level inquiry into the handling of the Malad crash case and strict action against the accused.
