More than 250,000 people have been forced to flee their homes across France and Spain as unprecedented wildfires continue to rage near Bordeaux and Madrid. France has deployed troops and a military cargo plane to help battle the flames, while firefighters in Spain say some blazes are spreading so fast that they cannot be fought head-on. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu described the French fires as unprecedented after one became so intense that it began generating its own winds. Despite cooler temperatures offering some relief, authorities warn the threat is far from over. We speak to our correspondents in Bordeaux and Madrid about Europe’s escalating wildfire crisis.
