The Lok Sabha has passed the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, introducing a jail term of up to three years for intentionally preventing or disrupting the singing of Vande Mataram.
The Bill was passed on July 30 after barely 15 minutes of debate, amid Opposition protests demanding Home Minister Amit Shah’s presence and a statement on the alleged police brutality against student protesters in Delhi on July 20.
