The disorder forced Messi to cut short his stadium appearance after around 20 minutes, overshadowing what was meant to be a celebratory stop that included the unveiling of his 70-foot statue. West Bengal’s chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, issued an apology to Messi. The football star continued his tour in Hyderabad and other Indian cities, including Mumbai and Delhi.
