Trump escalated tensions by calling Zelensky a “dictator without elections” and blaming him for not securing peace earlier. While initially dismissing Ukraine’s role, Trump later stated that Zelenskyy and Putin “have to get together” to stop the war . Meanwhile, Germany goes to polls on Sunday after Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s coalition collapsed. Conservative Friedrich Merz is the frontrunner, leading the CDU/CSU, which seeks economic reforms but needs a coalition partner. Scholz’s SPD has fallen to third but may return in a grand coalition. Far-right AfD, led by Alice Weidel, polls second but remains isolated. The AfD opposes EU membership, LGBTQ+ rights, and military aid to Ukraine. Green candidate Robert Habeck, the current economy minister, supports asylum reforms and higher public spending. The election’s outcome remains uncertain, with coalition talks expected to be complex.
