On 3 June, the UN General Assembly will elect five non-permanent members to the Security Council for the 2026–2027 term. The seats are allocated to Africa, Asia-Pacific, GRULAC, and Eastern Europe, with no seat for WEOG (Western European and Others Group) this year. All the groups are running unopposed in a “clean slate” election. The candidates are Bahrain, Colombia, the DRC, Latvia, and Liberia. Latvia is the only first-time contender. The elected members will begin their term on 1 January 2026.
