Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, gives her weekly press briefing after a gunman killed three people at a Catholic Primary School in Minneapolis.
READ MORE: The gunman who opened fire on children gathered for a Catholic Mass service in Minneapolis was the son of a former employee of the church.
The shooter was named by local media on Wednesday as Robin Westman, a 23-year-old with “no significant criminal history” from a suburban neighbourhood of the Minnesota city not far from the Annunciation Church where the attack took place.
Law enforcement sources told the local Kare TV station that his mother, Mary Westman, was a parish secretary at Annunciation before retiring in 2021. Her son attended the school, graduating aged 15 in 2017, according to a yearbook, and probably would have attended services at the church.

A now-deleted YouTube account believed to belong to Robin, formerly Robert, Westman shared what appeared to be a manifesto hours before the shooting. It featured a drawing of a church and a man stabbing the drawing repeatedly as he said: “I’m going to kill myself.”
