Hundreds of declassified documents on the assassination of John F Kennedy have provided a window into Lee Harvey Oswald’s ties to the CIA and the climate of suspicion that existed between the president and US spy agencies.
Some 2,182 files, containing about 63,400 pages of records, were released in two tranches by the National Archives.
Most of the documents were already in the public domain, except for minor redactions to remove identifying details about CIA officers and sources, which have now largely been released in full.
Congress will hear testimonies from witnesses on Tuesday, including the filmmaker Oliver Stone, who wrote and directed the 1991 movie JFK.
