In the second quarter of the 2025–26 financial year, India posted an impressive 8.2% GDP growth, significantly surpassing the RBI’s projection of 7%. The surge was powered by a 9.1% rise in manufacturing output, a 9.2% expansion in the services sector, and a robust 9.7% increase in public utilities and defence, making these sectors the backbone of the quarter’s strong performance. What makes this growth even more remarkable is the global backdrop: escalating U.S.–India trade tensions, with U.S. President Trump imposing 50% tariffs on Indian exports, the destabilising final phase of the Gaza conflict, and continued upheaval in Ukraine — all of which weighed heavily on global markets. While China grew by 4.8%, Malaysia by 5.2%, the Philippines by 5.5%, and Indonesia by 5%, India’s 8.2% stood out clearly, signalling that multiple domestic factors aligned at the right time.
