Amid the HMPV outbreak in China, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday dodged a question regarding the rising cases of acute respiratory infections in the country. During a press briefing, when asked whether it is still safe to travel to China amidst the spike in infection cases, Beijing responded, “The Chinese government provides information about epidemics in a timely, open, and transparent manner in accordance with the law. For more specific details, I recommend speaking to the relevant authorities in China.” Meanwhile, India reported seven cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV).
