A Kenyan police officer has been arrested after fatally shooting an unarmed civilian during a protest on June 17, 2025. The demonstration was sparked by the death of blogger Albert Ojwang, who was found dead in police custody just days after accusing a senior officer of corruption.
Update: In an earlier version, our headline stated that the bystanding trader had been shot dead by police forces. Instead, the trader was admitted to hospital, where doctors performed an emergency operation. We have adjusted our headline accordingly.
