Qatar’s leadership has reaffirmed its support for ongoing diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran, as talks were set to begin in Switzerland at the Bürgenstock Resort.
The Gulf state has played a key mediation role since the escalation of tensions between Iran and the United States, positioning itself alongside other regional actors seeking de-escalation and dialogue.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, an international affairs expert at Qatar University Abdulla Banndar al Etaibi, the importance of rebuilding trust between Washington and Tehran, warning that continued conflict risks further destabilising the wider region.
The discussions come amid heightened tensions in the Gulf, with regional states increasingly positioning themselves as key intermediaries in efforts to prevent further escalation.
