US President Donald Trump has announced sweeping new tariffs on nearly 70 countries, intensifying his administration’s trade offensive. The measures include a 35% duty on Canadian goods and a delayed hike on Mexican import duties. Tariff rates now go as high as 41% for Syria, with added penalties for goods rerouted through third countries. While some nations like Taiwan and Cambodia saw reductions from earlier threats, China could face fresh tariffs on August 12. Meanwhile, Israel carried out airstrikes on Hezbollah’s missile manufacturing and storage sites in southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa Valley. According to the Israeli defence minister, the strikes targeted Hezbollah’s largest precision missile manufacturing facility. The Israeli military said the operation focused on infrastructure used to produce and store strategic weapons. Lebanon’s state-run media also confirmed strikes in both the Bekaa region and the south.
