Rescue operations are underway to find survivors after a catastrophic landslide hit a village in Junlian County, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, on Saturday. The incident has left one person dead, two injured, and 28 others missing.

The landslide struck Jinping Village in Yibin City at approximately 11:50 am on Saturday. Authorities have deployed over 900 personnel, along with specialised equipment such as excavators and radar systems, to support the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

Stretching more than a kilometre in length, the landslide remains dangerous, with rocks continuing to fall from the unstable slope. Preliminary assessments showed the latest disaster was caused by recent heavy rainfall and local geological conditions
