India and the European Union have announced a historic free trade agreement following nearly twenty years of negotiations. It will create a market of two billion people, representing a quarter of global Gross Domestic Product and a third of global trade. The two sides hope the pact will help shield their economies against an onslaught of US tariffs and Chinese export controls.
