Why would America bomb German mail trains…just to make sure some letters got delivered?
During World War II, the OSS came up with a bizarre plan called Operation Cornflakes.
They created fake German letters, copied real postal stamps and markings, and filled them with anti-Nazi propaganda. Then Allied aircraft attacked German mail trains and scattered the fake letters among the wreckage.
The hope was simple: German postal workers would mistake them for real mail and deliver American propaganda straight into German homes.
And somehow…it worked.
