France Protests LIVE: 65,000 Take to Paris Streets as Anger Grows Over Cost of Living

Hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the streets across France, protesting over the cost of living, government inaction and demands for social and political change. France’s Interior Ministry revised its protest estimate, reporting around 65,000 demonstrators in Paris alone. While most marches remained peaceful, clashes between police and radical and far-left activists were reported in Rennes, Nantes, Lyon and Marseille. Firefighters responded to 86 fires, including one that destroyed a school common room in Toulouse. What began as student protests in September has since expanded, drawing trade unions and Yellow Vest protesters demanding higher wages, pensions and President Emmanuel Macron’s departure.
