Should we be worried about a death in Russia’s Far East that is suspected to have been caused by pneumonic plague? The case has raised questions about the risks posed by one of the world’s oldest and most feared infectious diseases. But how serious is the situation, how does pneumonic plague spread, and what do health officials know so far? DW’s Anthony Howard speaks to Dr. Amesh Adalja, a scholar at the Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Health Security. He calls on Russian authorities to release more details of the case.
