The AI “genie is already out of the bottle” and it is too late to call for a halt, Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said on Sunday (Sep 27).
Speaking during Singapore’s national statement at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Dr Balakrishnan warned that AI capabilities are advancing faster than our understanding of the risks.
He called for rigorous testing, limits on autonomous systems and shared global “rules of the road” as AI advances, stressing that humans must ultimately remain in control and accountable.
