An expedition by OceanX and NUS has detected microplastics thousands of metres in the depths of the Indian Ocean. Larger pieces were also found on the seabed. It echoes similar findings by other expeditions into the deepest marine ecosystems on earth. So how did they get there? And what could the presence of microplastics mean for our marine life? Caitlin Ng finds out in this exclusive report. Caitlin also explains the high seas and how they are governed.
