Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licences of three eateries inside the ISKCON temple complex in Juhu, Mumbai, including the popular Govinda’s Restaurant, following an inspection that flagged serious hygiene violations.
During the September 3 inspection, FDA officials found pest activity, choked drains, stagnant wastewater, insect droppings and a lack of proper segregation between raw, semi-cooked and prepared food. The inspection also flagged missing grease and cockroach traps and untested cooking oil.
The action comes under Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.
FPJ visited ISKCON Juhu and spoke to Vice President Gokuleshwar Das, who said the management has started corrective measures, including better food covering, cleaning schedules and maintaining registers. He also said ISKCON will conduct internal assessments and seek expert help to improve food safety standards.
