His rise coincided with one of the most turbulent periods in European history, from the collapse of the German Empire and the instability of the Weimar Republic to the emergence of Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich. As Germany moved toward war, Quandt transformed himself into one of the country’s most important suppliers of military equipment and strategic materials.
