Festival season is about to begin in , and with it comes a familiar favourite — prasad.
But a serious concern has now been raised over the alleged use of Auramine, a chemical powder, to enhance the colour and appearance of the prasad.
Thackeray Sena corporator Sachin Patil has approached Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde, seeking immediate testing of chana-footana samples and action against any use of unsafe chemicals. He has also called for the prasad to be ensured Auramine-free until test reports are available.
Sachin Patil has demanded a BMC probe. We also spoke to Dr Tushar Palve, Medical Superintendent, Cama Hospital, to understand the possible health concerns associated with exposure to such chemicals.
The allegation of Auramine being present in food items requires proper sampling and scientific testing by the authorities.
