Publicly he said he had “nothing to do” with school closures; his diary says he “convinced” de Blasio to close New York’s schools and worked Newsom’s office to shutter California’s. He even logged the fan mail from Barbra Streisand and Julia Roberts. Confronted with all of it at the Senate hearing, Fauci blasted Rand Paul’s “unhinged obsession” with prosecuting him — then pleaded the Fifth, as Senator Moreno demanded: “Who the f_** do you think you were?”
