Tokyo government staff ditch suits as heatwave grips Japan

☀️ The Tokyo government is encouraging staff to ditch jackets and ties in favour of shorts, T-shirts and sneakers under its “Tokyo Cool Biz” campaign, aimed at helping them cope with increasingly severe summer heat while reducing energy use.

Japan is bracing for another scorching summer after recording its hottest summer on record last year. The country’s meteorological agency issued a heatstroke alert for Tokyo on Wednesday (Jul 15) as temperatures climbed above 30 degrees Celsius.

One public servant said the casual dress code initially felt strange, but he gradually got used to it, while another said it would be difficult to return to formal office attire. #japan #japannews #heatwave
