Aceh allows up to 100 lashes for morality offenses including adultery, gambling and gay sex. The region was granted permission to enforce religious law in the 2000s in a deal to end a separatist war. The local Sharia police chief Muhammad Rizal said it was the first time the province punished people for violating Sharia law on social media.
