Over three hours, nearly 40 men allegedly approached her, with several reportedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Police teams stationed nearby intervened in suspicious situations and detained multiple individuals. The operation highlighted both the progress and limits of policing in tackling crimes against women. While authorities across India have expanded emergency helplines, safety apps and women-focused policing measures, the exercise also exposed a deeper social challenge surrounding attitudes, behaviour and women’s everyday safety in public spaces.
