Delhi isn’t the most polluted city in India, despite getting all the blame. The 2025 World Air Quality Report by IQAir reveals that Loni in Uttar Pradesh is the world’s most polluted city, with air 22 times above WHO guidelines and a 23% spike in just one year. Byrnihat in Meghalaya and Ghaziabad also rank among the worst, while Delhi comes in 4th globally.
India ranks 6th globally for polluted air, with 35% of Indian cities breathing air 10 times above WHO norms it is a full‑blown public health emergency. Meanwhile, Pakistan has been named as the most polluted country in 2025.
