The United States has sunk an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean — and the incident is raising major questions.
The Iranian naval frigate IRIS Dena was torpedoed by a US submarine off the coast of Sri Lanka while reportedly returning from India’s International Fleet Review in Visakhapatnam.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the strike, calling it the first time since World War II that an American submarine has sunk an enemy warship with a torpedo.
The vessel had participated in India’s major multinational naval exercise before sailing through the Indian Ocean.
