Sukma, once known primarily as an insurgency-hit region of Chhattisgarh, is witnessing a powerful grassroots transformation. Under the Central Government’s ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, the district has launched the ‘Aam Bagicha Project’, helping families shift from conflict-ridden uncertainty to stable, orchard-based livelihoods.
Villagers are growing mango, lemon, and coconut plantations — some nurturing over 300 plants — with the first harvest now approaching. The project is boosting incomes, improving food security, and giving communities a renewed sense of ownership over their land.
Supported by the district administration, the initiative brings training, horticulture assistance, and continuous monitoring — marking a major shift from a region once dominated by fear to one anchored in opportunity.
