India is boosting its defence capabilities with the reported procurement of advanced Israeli Heron Mk-II drones. These medium-altitude, long-endurance UAVs offer 45 hours of continuous operation, high-altitude performance, and diverse payload capacity. Reports indicate that all three branches of the Indian armed forces are set to acquire the drones, with discussions underway to manufacture the MK-II in India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” initiative. The potential collaborations could enable full technology transfer. India already uses Heron drones for surveillance along the China and Pakistan borders.
