The Russian Navy launched a Zircon hypersonic missile at a simulated target in the Barents Sea during its ongoing “Zapad 2025” joint military drills with Belarus, according to the Russian military. The Zircon, first touted by President Vladimir Putin in 2019, is capable of flying at nine times the speed of sound and striking targets on both land and sea at distances of over 1,000 kilometres (about 600 miles).

As part of the exercises, Russia also launched a Uran missile from its coastal missile system “Bal”, while showcasing helicopter fire support with Ka-52M and Mi-8NM aircraft.
