The White House has confirmed a steep increase in U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs to 50 per cent, taking effect at midnight Wednesday. William Slater, the president of United Steelworkers Local 2724 — a union representing workers at Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. — tells Hanomansing Tonight people are afraid to see what 50 per cent tariffs are going to do to their industries.
