En 1918, lors de la Première Guerre mondiale, dans le secteur de Meuse-Argonne en France, l’ancien avocat de New York et Major Charles White Whittlesey est assigné par le Général Robert Alexander à une attaque suicidaire massive contre les forces allemandes, dans la forêt d’Argonne avec son bataillon composé de cinq cents hommes.
