Scotland and The Netherlands have confirmed the Omicron mutation of COVID-19 was in Europe before South Africa alerted the World Health Organization last week.

The Dutch health authorities say they have detected the variant in two samples from November 19.

More than 20 countries have so far reported cases.

The US has yet to report a single case but health experts are testing samples to see if it may be present.
