More than 2,500 firefighters are battling around 180 wildfires burning across Russia’s Siberia.

Yakutia is one of the worst-affected regions and has been in a state of emergency for weeks.

Officials have warned residents to stay indoors to avoid the smoke.

This year’s fires are more intense due to unusually high temperatures caused by a prolonged drought.

In June, the Arctic Circle recorded a temperature of 38C – a record for the region which scientists have blamed on climate change.
