did you fall for salomon’s dog-orientated april fool’s joke last week? announced via its twitter, facebook, and instagram feeds on april 1st, 2021, the sports brand unveiled ‘Cross PAW’, a trail running shoe specially designed for dogs. the elaborate gag was made (almost) believable with detailed technical features and great photoshop skills but it seems like most people on social media weren’t fooled by the joke.

‘ideal for both short and long runs in adverse conditions, we adapted our most advanced trail running technologies to the specificity of a dog’s anatomy. the shoe features our PawSOC™️ system, a built-in mesh sock and velcro tab that cradles the paw for enhanced stability, a reinforced claw box, and a grippy Contagrip®️ outsole for increased grip in all conditions,’  said salomon on its social media feeds. 

in addition to the increased grip, reinforced ‘claw box’, and built-in mesh sock and velcro tab, one of the more amusing features of salomon’s april fool’s was the Smart Snack Pocket™️, a place on the sneaker for dogs to keep their favorite treats. the Cross PAW trail running shoe was also said to include a new gore-tex construction to reduce bulk and improve comfort while keeping paws dry, and an EnergyCell™️+ cushioning system to reduce stress on your four-legged friend’s ankles. 

‘after 3 years of development and testing, our first trail-dog specific shoe is ready to tackle the ruffest of trails your dog throws at it. Cross PAW, anything is paw-ssible,’  said the sports brand in a pun-filled post on twitter, facebook and instagram.
