In US news and current events today, tensions still linger of Japanese war crimes committed during World War II between Japan South Korea. Japan infamously forced thousands against their will into being comfort women or comfort girls during Japan World War 2, and this South Korean statue is an acknowledgement of that fact that many in Japan continue to downplay. A comfort woman or comfort girl are among the millions of victims of WWII and a sobering reminder of the horrors that existed in our past. WW2 wasn’t all that long ago, but as we tend to forget atrocities, it’s important to acknowledge them if healing is to happen.
