This restaurant serves immigrant food on the same street as the White House. Aptly named ‘Immigrant Food,’ the restaurant was founded by a son of immigrants who fled religious persecution. ’We wanted to create a restaurant that celebrated America’s story,’ says co-founder Peter Schechter.

The restaurant not only serves a fusion of various cultural cuisines, but its unique menu allows customers to donate to immigrant rights groups. The restaurant has partnered with 5 NGOs and immigrant rights organizations that are able to use its upstairs space for events, planning, and more.

Schechter hopes to bring this activism-focused business model to other U.S. cities. ‘There are people who wanna counteract some of the things that we’ve fought for for many years in this country,’ Schechter says. ‘And I think it’s the role of business to get involved in that fight.’
