Rape charges against Israeli teenagers were dropped by police after footage showing the British woman who made the allegations ‘asking for the door to be closed’, one of the men claimed.

The 19-year-old British woman told police she was gang-raped by the 12 men in Cyprus before changing her story to say she was upset when three of them filmed her during consensual sex.

She later insisted she is the victim after video of the sexual encounter was circulated online.

One of the freed 12 boys told of his delight at being released – and insisted she had consented to sex.

Yisrael David told reporters as he landed back in Israel that she had agreed to sex with him and several others after a night of wild partying in Ayia Napa.

The woman, who is not being named, has since withdrawn her claim of rape and is facing charges in Cyprus of public mischief amid claims she made up the sex attack.

A 19-year-old Briton who accused 12 Israelis of gang-raping her in Ayia Napa appeared in court Tuesday charged with ‘public mischief’ after police say she invented the attack

The woman initially told police that 12 boys attacked her for an hour after she consented to sex with one of them, but later said she had consented to sex with three of them but objected to them filming her, which she did not give permission for

A video was made of the alleged attack in which the woman was said to have been filmed smiling while having sex with one of the men – in footage that has since been widely circulated.

Her lawyer Andreas Pittadjis said spreading the video was a bigger offence than the charge the British teenager is facing.

But Yisrael, one of those accused of gang-rape, said she had agreed to group sex and the videos shown to police in Cyprus had proved their innocence.

‘In none of them [the clips] does she look like she’s suffering or shouting for help,’ he said in an interview with Israel’s Channel 12.

‘The police saw a tape in which you can see that the door is being opened and instead of yelling for help and saying she was raped, she says ‘close the door.’ A woman who is being raped doesn’t say that.’

Describing the incident, Yisrael said: ‘I was in the room, yes.… That evening we saw our friends whom we met there with the woman.

‘We went up to her room, 723, and we were with her there in the room. You saw the videos. We were three in the room and there were more people outside who wanted to come in, who came in, and went out.

‘They didn’t actually do anything but they did see and were part of everything that went on there.’

He said he was asleep when police arrived to arrest him. ‘The policemen caught me in bed, and I woke up from a smack on the face. That’s how they woke me when they arrested me.

Andreas Pittadjis, the woman’s lawyer, insists that she is still the victim because the video was leaked online – which is a bigger offence than the one she is charged with

The teenager was remanded in custody for eight days while police investigate and is facing up to a year in jail if found guilty

‘We went through very difficult things in the days we sat there. I didn’t understand very well at the beginning why they woke me from bed, only when we got to the station I saw everyone and then they explained to us that we are arrested on suspicion of rape.’

Andreas Pittadjis, the lawyer who is representing the teenager, demanded to know who had leaked the video as she appeared in court Tuesday charged with public nuisance, for which she now faces a year in jail.

Mr Pittadjis said the spreading of the video was a bigger offence than the charge that she is facing, as a judge ordered her to be held in custody for eight days while police investigate.

Speaking outside court, he said: ‘The offence my client is accused of is not considered to be one of the most serious offences in our criminal system.

‘The fact that the video of my client appears to have gone around the world is a much more serious offence.

‘I want to know who leaked this video and why?

‘This sort of crime is punishable by more than a year in prison. Someone should investigate – both here and in Israel.’

Despite Yisrael’s conviction, he thought it would be a long battle of ‘our word against hers’ and was astounded when the case turned around so quickly.

‘When the prison guard came to my cell and said that we are going home I thought he was joking. I didn’t believe him. I was so happy at that moment, I went quickly so that they wouldn’t change their minds.’

He thought that they may be stuck in Cypriot prison, helpless. ‘We saw from the beginning lies in her version, full of bugs, but the police didn’t pay attention to this and it really bothered us. We thought that we were going to stay there a long time just because we aren’t locals and we were caught in this situation.’

Yisrael and the other teens were lambasted by many Israelis for publicly celebrating when they were freed and when they returned home.

He rejected the criticism, saying: ‘I know it isn’t any big source of pride, I didn’t win a Nobel prize or something that should be celebrated, but the fact is that we got out of that situation that took away our freedom, we are free people now and this is something that should be celebrated.’

He said that he saw things during his holiday that were reminiscent of Sodom and Gomorrah, and admitted that he learned from the incident.

Though he believes that the woman didn’t object to being filmed, he now thinks that they shouldn’t have videoed her.

‘It wasn’t right to take those films, the woman’s respect should be guarded no matter what, with whom, where she is from, what race, and what kind of sex. The woman must be respected and that is something that with God’s help we will get better at,’ he added.

Mr Pittadjis said his client was ‘coping well’ and is currently staying in a remand centre of Nicosia Central prison.

Judge Tonia Nicolaou earlier told the court the offence was not deemed serious but added: ‘It had repercussions in that there was a police investigation and that 12-men were arrested.’

According to Israeli sources, the video has been shared via WhatsApp and on pornographic sites.

One told MailOnline: ‘During the video one of the men says ”you’re my whore, say you’re my whore”.

‘She asks what they are saying and one of them replies in English ”we are saying you’re sexy”.

‘It is not very nice. It’s not how men should act.’

The saga began when the woman claimed to police on July 17 that she had been gang-raped by 12 Israelis at the Pambos Napa Rocks Hotel in Ayia Napa.

She initially claimed that she knew one of the men and went to his hotel room for a consensual encounter, before the rest of the group burst in and attacked her.

The men were arrested and remanded in custody while police gathered mobile phone footage and DNA samples.

Five of the twelve were subsequently freed due to lack of evidence, while seven others were kept in jail.

An identity parade was also planned before charges were expected to be laid.

However, a dramatic development came on Sunday when the remaining seven were released after the woman reportedly changed her story.

The Times of Israel reports that, in subsequent police interviews, the girl walked back her previous statement and admitted having consensual sex with three men.

However, she became angry at some of the men for filming the encounter, which she had not given them permission to do, the paper reports.

Following their release, the seven teenagers flew home to Israel and were pictured celebrating at the airport.

Lawyers for at least three of the ex-accused now say their clients want to sue the British woman for damages.

Yaniv Habari, Nir Yaslovitzh and Yona Golub all told The Sun that they will be suing for anguish, libel, loss of earnings and suffering caused.

A source close to the men added: ‘There are twelve cases to be heard and this will be a very expensive case for her.

‘The claims will run into millions for the suffering she put them through.’

Speaking on arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel on Monday, Mr Golub said: ‘We will sue her for the anguish caused and for libel.

‘I am walking in the street and people are calling me a rapist. I was with two friends who were arrested and they straight away arrested me too. I know my friends were in the room, but I wasn’t, I don’t know the girl.’

Golub made the comments in the arrivals area of Ben Gurion Airport, near Tel Aviv.

‘The truth is out,’ Golub added. ‘I told myself, today finally this nightmare ends. I went through tough days. I was happy to hear they were being set free, I was going crazy at home.’
