In pride month 2019 and US news, NowThis News sat down with Maebe A. Girl, the first drag queen to be elected to public office in the US. While most people are familiar with seeing drag queens doing lip sync performances at drag shows or on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Maebe A Girl is taking her power to politics. Maebe A. Girl is a Silver Lake Neighborwood councilwoman in Los Angeles. She’s isn’t the first drag politicians ever, LGBTQIA people were represented by Jose Sarria in 1961 who was openly gay and a drag queen. Maebe A. Girl is also running for Congress in 2020 against Adam Schiff.
