A Perth mother has been charged with trying to kill or harm her baby by putting bleach in her one-year-old son’s feeding tube.

Brooke Evelyn Lucas’s son William was born with Pierre Robin sequence, which can affect a child’s ability to feed and breathe.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by the family about four months ago to help pay for William’s medical costs, he needs around-the-clock care, and eats and breathes through a tube.

More than $2,000 of the $10,000 the family was seeking has been raised.

According to the fundraising page, William was born 14 weeks early with numerous health problems, and has spent much of his life in hospital.

Ms Lucas wrote on the page she lived an hour away from the hospital and it was costing more than $100 a week in fuel and parking fees.

She said her baby would need specialist equipment, that any help would be greatly appreciated and that she hoped to bring him home from hospital for his first birthday.

On Friday, Child Abuse Squad detectives charged Ms Lucas with intending to kill or endanger William’s life by putting bleach in his feeding tube.

It is alleged the offence took place on December 29, 2018.

William was taken to hospital for treatment at the time, but it is understood he has since been released.

Ms Lucas appeared in a Perth court on Saturday, but was remanded in custody until her next appearance on Monday.
