Confused Republican representatives in Congress confronted Google CEO Sundar Pichai about the company’s ‘bias’ against Republicans because they don’t like the articles they see in search results. Rep. Steve Chabot brought up seeing articles about the Affordable Care Act and the American Health Care Act, saying the coverage of the latter was mostly negative, despite the fact that 23 million people would lose health insurance under the American Health Care Act. Pichai explained that Google uses robust methodology to ‘reflect what is being said about any given topic at any particular time.’ Pichai said that Google is committed to unbiased rubrics and is not influenced by political ideology. Pichai also explained that Google employees are not able to alter specific search results. Rep. Lamar Smith chose not to believe that fact.
