Staten Island, New York, Congressman-elect Max Rose is speaking out against the power of lobbyist money in Washington. Rose says the power of Washington D.C. doesn’t lie on Capitol Hill or The White House but instead on K Street, where all of the lobbyists have their offices. Rose argues that policy is predominantly influenced by how much lobbyists pay and to whom. Thousands of lobbyists are bringing ‘stacks of checks’ to sway politicians and buy votes. Rose wants an end to this system and believes lobbyists should impact legislation on the strength of their ideas not the depth of their pockets. Democrats say a sweeping anti-corruption bill will be priority number one in 2019.
