President Donald Trump wants you to think that immigrants and undocumented immigrants don’t pay taxes and are draining social security resources. This is simply not true. Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich explains that foreign-born Americans pay more than $300 billion in federal, state, and local taxes, according to the most recent data. In 2015, undocumented immigrants paid an estimated $24 billion in federal taxes and another $11 billion in property taxes, and state and local taxes. Undocumented immigrants contributed $15 billion in Social Security taxes every year even though they are ineligible to receive those benefits. More immigration is good for the economy.
