Children from migrant families with ‘no recourse to public funds‘ are often unable to access free school meals. NELMA is launching a campaign calling for free school meals for all who need them, regardless of immigration status, and for schools to be adequately funded so that they can provide this.
Our campaign launch is a Picnic for Free School Meals on 29th September, and we would love to see you there!
With the support of Hackney Migrant Centre, we will be holding the picnic at St Mary’s Church, Stoke Newington, N16 9ES, from 12 – 4pm on 29th September. It will be a chance for teachers, parents, children and other members of the community to get together to share experiences and learn more about the issue.
The day will include:
* Free food and drink
* Music including young DJs, and the free school meals podcast!
* Postcard-making and writing for children and parents, to send to the Department of Education / Secretary of State
* Opportunities to learn more about the impact of the lack of free school meals provision to destitute migrant families
