Emergency services are responding to a bushfire in Darwin’s rural area, with authorities saying the blaze has “reached an unknown number” of structures and vehicles.

Fire crews are working to get the blaze under control. It is currently burning in the Pioneer Road area of Humpty Doo, south of Darwin.

Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services (NT PFES) said visibility in the area was “extremely poor” due to smoke.

“Please avoid the area if possible for your safety and to allow emergency responders clear access,” NT PFES said in a statement.

“They will be coming and going from the location.”

There were unconfirmed reports of structures already being destroyed on social media.

More to come.
