A Tasmanian woman says she is concerned for the safety of her children and neighbours after her “friendly” pet Labrador was found with gunshot wounds outside the family home.

Anthea Chugg from Longford, in Tasmania’s north, said her daughter Eve found Lottie outside the front door bleeding from three bullet wounds.

Ms Chugg took the dog to a local vet who she said saved the animal.

“A bullet was only a millimetre away from smashing her spine,” Ms Chugg posted on Facebook.

“Why shoot her? She’s clearly a family dog who is extremely overweight. She is no threat to anything or anyone.”

Ms Chugg said she was concerned for the safety of others in the area.

“There is a couple of really scary factors here, firstly being that we live in a fairly built-up area with three kids often playing outside.

“How many bullets did this person shoot off? That is a question that is constantly playing on my mind.

“Secondly, Lottie is the most friendly dog anyone could ever meet. If someone called her she would come running with her tail wagging.”

She praised the work of the local vet clinic, saying staff kept her dog alive.

“Our deepest thanks go to the new vets here at Longford who operated on Lottie during the night.

“They have saved her life. They were brilliant.”

Ms Chugg had this message for the culprits.

“Whoever you are that shot her, you are a scum of the earth mongrel … but sucked in.

“She’s a fighter and still here and I hope the rest of your days are as miserable as you are!”
